Courtney Tulloch at EJB
Saturday 22nd September saw Courtney Tulloch – GB Mens Squad, come to EJB Gymnastics Club for a 2 hour workshop. The boys at EJB were put through a warm up, conditioning, skills and prep session. We finished with an inspiring talk from Courtney and a question and answer session. Among the many interesting insights Courtney gave were that –
- Gymnastics is like a roller coaster – it has its ups and downs.
- He has won about 200 or 300 medals – he hasn’t counted, but roughly that many!!!
- He hasn’t always won medals in every competition he has entered.
- After a disappointment, it has made him work even harder.
- Some skills have taken him a few hours to learn and some skills have taken many years.
- He has made many sacrifices in order to become a gymnast -missing out on parties and cinema outings, but says he will do all that when he retires from gymnastics.
- He trains 24 hours a week.
- He started training at Redbridge – (where they hold the GfA!!!!)
- He loves the team aspect of the sport and says that his team mates help to motivate him.
- Gymnastics has taken him around the world for competitions.
- When asked if he had ever been teased about doing gymnastics, he answered that he showed them his six pack and a standing tuck back and then it wasn’t a problem! He advised the boys to ignore any teasing and said that it’s understandable that if they don’t do gymnastics, they won’t understand it.
- Listening to his coaches, working hard all the time, having a mum who committed to getting him to every training session and his love of the sport; has got him to where he is today.
It was great of Courtney to come and has really given the boys an insight into where the sport can take you.
